Garfield Smith

Lead Camp Director

Garfield Smith was born in Kingston, Jamaica where at a young age he fell in love with the game of basketball.  When his parents moved to New York he got his first taste of high level basketball.  He went on to play for the prestigious Riverside Church travel program and won a title at his high school.  He was considered one of the top players in New York City.

In college he had the honor to play at Maryland where he faced high level talent each and every night.  He was coached by the legendary  Hall of Fame coach Gary Williams.  Hampered by an injury his senior season  he was not drafted.  He had a solid professional  career playing overseas in Turkey and Spain.  He also had a short stint in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors.

After retiring from professional  basketball he wanted to give back to youth basketball so he started coaching at Pines Charter High School where he mentored several Division I players.  Currently he is the associate head coach at Cypress Bay HS working with Coach Looky who is staple in the Weston community. He is a master trainer who maximizes talent connecting it with work ethic and  basketball IQ.  If you are going to train, train with someone who cares about you.
